If you live on the Sunshine Coast, this makes battery storage more accessible than ever. Add a battery to your existing solar, upgrade your current setup, or install a full solar and battery package. Sandy Electrical Solar will design, supply and install a premium system, then apply the eligible rebate at point of sale so you see the saving upfront.
From 1 July 2025, Australians can get around 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible home battery through the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
The discount is applied by the retailer or installer on your invoice and is based on the battery’s usable capacity. It steps down over time until 2030.
The program sets a maximum of $372 per usable kWh before fees. After typical admin and trading costs, the effective discount is commonly about $330 to $344 per usable kWh.
Examples for typical home batteries:
The discount is normally applied upfront by the retailer or installer.
Note for Queensland: the state’s Battery Booster rebate is closed. For Sunshine Coast customers, the main support now is the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
A battery is a smart investment if you want to:
Yes. You can add a compliant battery to an existing solar system, provided it meets the program requirements and is installed on or after 1 July 2025.
Eligible systems are 5 kWh to 100 kWh nominal capacity. STCs are available on the first 50 kWh of usable capacity, which covers virtually all residential batteries.
The discount is provided upfront through your retailer or installer, not as a later cash claim. We handle the paperwork and certificate creation behind the scenes.
Panels convert sunlight into DC electricity. On the Sunshine Coast we optimise orientation, row spacing and stringing to manage heat, coastal air and seasonal shading.
The inverter converts DC to AC, charges the battery and manages export. We specify premium hybrids such as Fronius for reliability, smart energy management and clean monitoring..
Storage captures surplus solar. Once the battery is full, further surplus can still export. With the correct setup, the battery can power essential circuits during an outage.
A consumption meter or CTs allow the app to show household use, solar production and battery flows in real time. This is what drives better behaviour and faster returns.
You stay connected. The goal is to buy less from the grid, export more intelligently and have backup when you need it. Newer connections on the Coast often use dynamic export limits. We configure your system so it complies and still performs well.
Our recommended brands combine efficiency, durability and monitoring so your system performs year after year in Sunshine Coast conditions.
BYD’s modular LFP storage is built for high safety, long cycle life and real‑world reliability. Scalable stacks let us size the system to your home today and expand later, with seamless pairing to Fronius GEN24 for clean backup on the Sunshine Coast.
Sungrow SBR is a quiet, stackable battery that integrates perfectly with Sungrow hybrid inverters and the iSolarCloud app. It delivers strong value, neat installation and dependable backup for Sunshine Coast homes that want smart, simple storage.
Sigenergy’s SigenStor combines an inverter, battery and smart management system into one streamlined unit. Built for performance and reliability, it’s a premium all-in-one solution for Sunshine Coast homes that want sleek design, backup capability and full energy control from a single app.
We are honest about backup. Essential‑circuits backup keeps the things that matter running. We will show you what is covered and how long it will run based on typical use
The Coast is known for summer storms. A battery with backup keeps refrigeration, lighting and communications up, and it reduces the stress that comes with unexpected outages.
Feed‑in tariffs in South East Queensland are set by retailers and can change by plan and over time. Storing your own solar for night use reduces exposure to low export rates and rising import prices.
We model best case and conservative case using your bills, meter data where available and Sunshine Coast seasonality.
It depends on surplus generation, not a magic panel count. A well‑designed Sunshine Coast array commonly produces enough daytime surplus to charge a mid‑size battery outside long stretches of heavy cloud. We look at your bills, your roof layout and your daytime loads. We then size the array and battery together so the battery fills reliably and you still have power for the home during the day.
1: Run dishwashers, washing machines and dryers in the middle of the day.
2: Heat‑pump hot water can be timed to soak up solar.
3: EV charging can be scheduled to match solar peaks.
It comes down to usable capacity and your evening profile. For example, a family that uses lights, refrigeration, cooking and entertainment in the evening will draw less than a household that runs air conditioning hard at night. We size storage to your profile, set a reserve level and show you in the app how much power remains so you can decide when to run heavier loads.
For most Sunshine Coast homes the best value is grid connected solar with a battery. You maximise self‑use, gain blackout protection for essentials and keep the grid for reliability. Off‑grid makes sense for remote sites without practical network access. Off‑grid systems require larger arrays, bigger storage and a generator. We design both, and we will be clear about costs and trade‑offs.
Ask for panel brand and wattage, inverter model, battery model and usable capacity, rail and clamp finish if you want an all‑black look.
Look for cable routes, isolators, labelling, monitoring hardware, a tidy switchboard plan and whether a backup board is included.
Insist on approved products and accredited designers and installers. Check how export limits will be configured on the Sunshine Coast and that commissioning and handover documents are included.
Who services your system, how to reach them and how long the workmanship warranty lasts. Premium outcomes come from quality installation and reliable support, not just parts.
Choose a retailer who follows modern consumer protections and who can demonstrate real local case studies.
A quote with vague models, no site visit, or a price that looks too good to be true. Cheap gear, rushed installs and no support usually cost more in the end.
Monitoring is where performance becomes visible. You can see solar production, household use, battery level and when the grid is used. Alerts can notify you if performance drops. We can also set up helpful automations, for example a notification when the battery reaches a chosen reserve.
Oversizing storage reduces cycling and can delay payback. Match size to your night‑time use and plans.
Battery work has stricter safety rules. Use accredited specialists who follow Australian Standards.
Every home is different. Roofs, tariffs, habits and future plans vary. A tailored design always performs better.
Remote quotes hide switchboard issues and cable routes. A site visit protects you from surprises.
If you cannot see it, you cannot optimise it. Monitoring is not a nice to have. It is essential.
We are lining up local case studies in Noosa, Buderim, Caloundra, Nambour and Peregian. Each will include system size, brand mix, before and after bills, and backup design so you can see real outcomes near you.
We do not run a public showroom, however you are welcome to book a time at our Sunshine Coast office to see a live demo wall with inverters and batteries in operation. If you prefer, we can come to you for an on‑site assessment.
Book a free on‑site consultation. We will size the right solar and battery package for your Sunshine Coast home, confirm eligibility for the federal battery discount, model savings and backup options, and provide a clear, fixed price quote.
No. The system needs to be capable of joining one. Participation is your choice. We can talk you through pros and cons.
Yes. We can make the solar battery ready now, then add storage when you are ready. We will also show you the cost and benefit of doing both at once.
It is how much of the battery’s capacity can be used. Higher usable capacity improves value. We will explain usable kWh for each brand.
Most modern batteries are very quiet in normal operation. We still locate them sensibly and avoid echo‑prone spaces where possible.
It depends on inverter power and battery size. We will be clear about what can run and for how long.
Visual checks, keeping the area clear and running the latest firmware. We can provide scheduled checks if you want them.
We can use hard‑wired networking or improve Wi‑Fi with a small access point near the system.
Modular systems can be expanded within brand rules. We will show which brands and how expansion works.
We specify coastal‑appropriate fixings and finishes and we site equipment sensibly to minimise exposure.
Yes. Storing surplus solar for night use often beats exporting at a low rate then buying it back later at full price.
