What is included in a rooftop solar power system

A quality grid‑connected system includes:
Solar panels, a mounting system, a solar inverter, optional battery storage, and balance‑of‑system components such as isolators, breakers, labelling and monitoring hardware. Every item affects safety, performance and longevity, so we specify premium parts only.

Panels convert sunlight into DC electricity. We design each array for Sunshine Coast conditions, roof type and aesthetics. All‑black options are available when paired with black rails. We plan stringing to manage heat and shade across seasons.

Your roof anchors your investment. We use premium rails, clamps and fasteners, with attention to corrosion resistance for coastal air. Neat cable management and sealed penetrations protect the roof and keep the array secure in high winds.

The inverter converts DC to AC for the home, manages export and, in hybrid models, charges a battery. We specify premium inverters like Fronius for hybrids and Sungrow for strong value, always with robust local support.

A battery stores surplus solar for night‑time use and can power essential circuits in a blackout with the correct backup design. See our Battery Storage page for full details and for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program section above.

Quality isolators, breakers, labelling and a smart meter or CTs complete the installation. Monitoring gives you real‑time visibility of generation, household use and battery state of charge so you can optimise your savings.

Trusted brands, built for Sunshine Coast conditions

Our recommended brands combine efficiency, durability and monitoring so your system performs year after year in Sunshine Coast conditions.

Trina Panels

Trina’s high‑efficiency N‑type modules deliver strong output in Sunshine Coast conditions with robust build quality and double‑glass options. Expect reliable performance, sleek aesthetics and long product and performance warranties backed by solid Australian support.

Sungrow Inverters

Sungrow string and hybrid inverters offer excellent value with dependable performance, quiet operation and simple commissioning. Pair seamlessly with Sungrow SBR batteries, and stay in control with iSolarCloud monitoring for clear, real‑time insights.

Fronius Inverter

Fronius GEN24 hybrid inverters are renowned for premium engineering, active cooling and precise power management in Australian heat. Solar.web monitoring and strong local service make them a favourite for BYD pairings and backup‑ready designs.

Schletter Rails

Schletter racking is German‑engineered for strength and longevity, using corrosion‑resistant aluminium and stainless fixings. Black anodised rail options create a clean, low‑profile look while protecting your roof and panels in coastal environments.

How many solar panels do I need?

There is no magic panel count. It depends on:

We review your last four bills to understand usage patterns, then size the array to meet your goals. Many Sunshine Coast homes aim for 6.6 kW to 10 kW. Larger homes or future electrification plans often suit 10 kW to 13 kW or more.

Solar reduces what you buy from the grid. Whether you still receive a bill depends on system size, your usage timing, your feed‑in tariff and whether you include a battery. Many customers see seasonal patterns. Credits in autumn and spring, higher import in summer or winter when cooling or heating peaks. If your aim is to eliminate imports as much as possible, add a battery and shift flexible loads into solar hours.

The popularity of 6.6 kW systems is often about retailer convenience and grid export rules, not what is best for your home. We design around your goals.
Ask: Will 6.6 kW reduce your bills to where you want them? Will it fill a battery consistently in winter? Does the inverter allow for future expansion? We will model the options with you and show the trade‑offs.

The right system is the one that delivers your goals safely and reliably for decades. Our on‑site consultation covers:

  • Your bill reduction target and any preference for batteries or EV charging
  • Daily and seasonal usage patterns
  • Roof layout, structure and shade mapping
  • Inverter location, cable routes and switchboard condition
  • Export settings under Energex and the impact of dynamic export
  • Product preferences and aesthetics, including all‑black rails
  • Budget, finance and timeframes

You receive a custom design, not a one‑size‑fits‑all box.

Price varies with brand, array size, mounting complexity, cable runs, switchboard work and whether you include a battery. We quote a fixed price that lists exact models, quantities and scope. We do not cut corners on isolators, conduit or fixings. Cheaper systems often save upfront and cost more in performance loss, repairs and short warranties.

System lifespan, maintenance and monitoring

Quality panels carry 25‑year performance warranties and can last far longer. Inverters typically last 10 to 15 years, with hybrids designed for heavy cycling

STCs for solar PV
The Small‑scale Technology Certificate scheme reduces the up‑front price of eligible solar PV. The number of certificates depends on system size and location and reduces each year to 2031. We include the STC value in your quote.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program

Read more from our blog for more information on the federal discount on eligible batteries. It is applied up‑front on your invoice. We handle the paperwork

In SEQ, feed‑in tariffs are set by retailers. Rates vary by plan and change over time. Storing solar for night use and shifting loads into the day generally beats exporting most of the time at low rates. We will help you compare plans and configure monitoring to lift self‑consumption.

Payback depends on array size, tariff type, self‑consumption and whether you include a battery. As electricity prices rise, paybacks improve. Many homes see three to five year paybacks on quality PV, faster where usage is high in daylight hours. Adding a battery improves independence and can improve returns when designed correctly and factored with the federal discount.

Older systems can be expanded or modernised, subject to product and compliance rules. We assess panel age, inverter capability, roof layout, warranties and your current feed‑in tariff before recommending a path. Sometimes a new hybrid inverter and fresh array deliver better results than trying to stretch legacy hardware.

The technology is reliable, yet poor installs and cheap parts cause problems. We routinely fix issues like loose connections, poor cable management, wrong isolators, water ingress and unsafe inverter locations. That is why we use quality components and accredited installers and why we guarantee our workmanship.

Comparing quotes the right way

Ask for exact models and quantities.

Panel brand and wattage. Inverter model. Rail and clamp finish. Battery model and usable kWh.

Check the scope.

Cable paths, isolators, monitoring hardware, backup board, labelling and grid application.

Verify compliance.

Approved products. Accredited designers and installers. Clear export settings under Energex.

Demand after‑care.

Workmanship warranty, support contact, escalation  path.Be cautious with very low prices and one‑size packages that ignore your property and goals.

Why we insist on an on‑site quote

Phone quotes miss the details that matter. Switchboards, roof condition, cable routes, backup circuits and safe working access cannot be assessed from aerial photos. An on‑site quote protects you from surprise variations and ensures the design is right the first time.
